Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from your face to your brain. If you have trigeminal neuralgia, even mild stimulation of your face — such as from brushing your teeth or putting on makeup — may trigger a jolt of excruciating pain. It is sometimes described as the most excruciating pain known to humanity. Treatment includes medications to control the pain. However, when the pain doesn’t get controlled with medications or if patient has side effects of medications RADIOFREQUENCY ABLATION of trigeminal nerve can be done.
POST HERPETIC NEURALGIA (PHN)
Postherpetic neuralgia is a painful condition that affects the nerve fibers and skin. It is a complication of shingles, and shingles is a complication of chicken pox. It is estimated that about 1 in 5 patients with shingles will go on to have PHN. Treatment includes neuropathic medications. However, if patient doesn’t have relief with medications or has side effects of medications NERVE BLOCKS can be given to reduce the pain. The mainstay of the treatment involves treating the nerve as soon as possible before permanent changes take place in the nerve.
